I caught this on March 14th, 2025 near Salisbury, MD. Taking the canoe out is one of my favorite ways to experience the water and the world around us. A FAQ I get is “What do you do during the winter?” and they’re always surprised when I say “Fish and paint…?”. These Crappies are one of my all time favorites from early experiences freshwater fishing to one of my go to winter species to target because they’ve got iridescent hues of purple and greens. This was the first photo print that was developed from one of my hand painted and pressed original Gyotkaus.

I caught this on September 13th, 2024 in the marshes of Deal Island, MD. Taking the kayak out is a fun way for me to make smooth drifts through marsh creeks bouncing little swim baits and jigs to find pockets of these schooled up. Growing up with a Philipino best friend, I always loved when I was around during dinner time and they pan fried fish whole. That’s something I always admired about some cultures’ virtues of flavor and never letting anything go to waste.

The initial pressing of this particular perch captured the definition of the scales so well that I knew I had to get an image before going into the phase of shading and layering colors.

I caught this on September 9th, 2025 in Wenona, Maryland. I went out for a post work paddle, not hell bent on catching, just needed to hit the refresh button by soaking up some sun and saltwater. I was passing by a spot with a drop off from 3ft to 13ft and decided to get a feel for the bottom with my swim bait. Thud. Yank, Yank peelin’ line. When it got towards the surface and a I saw tints of golden red my adrenaline soared and it was all I could do to net this beauty without falling in I had the wobbles so good. I immediately put it under my knees and paddled back to the dock because I’ve fished for long enough to know this was as good as it was gonna get. Fortunately there was a few locals saw me paddle in and offered up a celebratory Natty Boh and photo opp. After it all, I made some good acquintances who I can call when I’m in trouble if I’m on the water around Wenona. I’ts not a matter of if…, but when.

I caught this on June 29th, 2025 in Wenona, Maryland. I went out for a sunset paddle, satisfied with just catching the sunset, but I happened to blind cast a popping cork with a soft plastic swimbait right on the head of this beautiful Trout. This is one of 2 Gyotakus that I made out of this fish tale. Both turned out so well that I had to make record of them by creating a photo print.

I caught this on July 8th, 2025, around Deal Island, Maryland. One of our favorite ways to target these are during low light conditions like cloudy days, sun rises, and sunsets. We try and find the water moving the right way or pieces of above or below water structure that we can throw top water baits around. They mimic an injured fish on the surface, and these Rockfish explode the water around the lure and sometimes you see them torpedo straight out of the water to T-bone your bait.
