Redfish are one of my favorite species to catch, paint, and eat. Pound for pound they’re one of the hardest fighting fish to reel in, especially when you’re in a kayak. I remember heading down to Wenona for a short sunset mission and happened to be in the right place at the right tide, throwing the right lure.

Rockfish are a staple game fish of the Chesapeake Bay. When they’re in season there is a slot size between 18-24″ when these fish are eligible and sustainable size to harvest. This particular fish has imprints of favored memories shared with friends fishing the shallows and deep channel markers out chasing sunsets to get back to the boat ramp before dark.

One of my favorite times to catch Rockfish is the hour before the sun goes down behind the horizon. October is a well-known time around the Chesapeake Bay to target these fish as they feed to get ready to travel hundreds of miles as the water temps in the bay descend for the winter.

Flounder are one of those species that I have the most luck with when things line up and I’m able to catch the tides just right to get these flatties to bite. The water can rip so hard out of the Gargatha inlet into the Atlantic Ocean, and if you’re on a kayak it can turn a lazy river into an all-out paddle battle if you aren’t careful.
